Defining Poker Terms - 4

Hello and thanks for coming by. It is time to go over more terms that should come up as you work to win on money poker sites. I hope you are enjoying my alphabetical progress as much as I am. At the very least it prevents me from sitting here for minutes on end trying to decide between all the poker terms in the dictionary.

I chose ICM for the letter “I”, which is an acronym for Independent Chip Model. If you play sit & gos on a Full Tilt Poker download, ICM is incredibly important. When there are less than 10 players remaining in a tourney, ICM gives your chips a cash value and helps you make optimal decisions.

There are not a lot of J terms, so let’s just quickly look at “jam”. If you get your hands on some free poker training and the instructor says he likes a jam, he is saying that he likes going all-in. ”Shove” and “push” both have the same meaning.

My next word is “kill”. If you decide not to download Roulette in favor of poker at the local brick-and-mortar, there is often a kill game going on. When someone wins two pots in a row, they are required to pay an extra blind the next hand. A half kill requires just 1.5 times the big blind while a full kill is 2 times the big blind. Passive players that lose a lot of money on poker flash sites will probably like kill tables since they sometimes slow aggressive players down a bit.

When someone raises or calls “light”, they are doing it with a hand that is usually second best. Say you are playing on Tiger Gaming and you get dealt T3 in the small blind. Someone with a high steal percentage raises on the cut-off, and you decide to raise it up since you know he is weak a large percentage of the time. He is probably raising light in late position, and you are reraising light from the blinds. You will find these situations on a regular basis on poker sites.

I think that will wrap it up for today. In December I will keep going with the alphabet, starting off with the letter M. To keep yourself busy, be sure to play lots of poker.
